Single (baseball) facts for kids
A single in baseball happens when a batter hits the ball and safely reaches first base. They must get there before any player on the other team can get them out. It's like getting a free pass to first base because you hit the ball so well!
Sometimes, a batter might reach first base safely, but it's not called a single. This can happen if a player on the other team makes a mistake, called an error. Or, it might be a "fielder's choice" if the other team tries to get another runner out instead of the batter.
