Musical Career
Working with Green Day
Jason White has a long history with Green Day. He started as their touring guitarist in 1999. This means he travels with the band and plays guitar on stage during their shows. He helped the band record their albums ¡Uno!, ¡Dos!, and ¡Tré! in 2012. He played guitar on these albums to help them sound more like a live performance.
Many fans wondered if Jason became an official member of Green Day in 2012. However, Jason has said he was a session musician for those albums, not a full member of the band. He continues to be an important part of Green Day's live shows.
He has appeared in many of Green Day's music videos, including:
- "When I Come Around"
- "Wake Me Up When September Ends"
- "21 Guns"
- "Last of the American Girls"
- "Kill the DJ"
In 2008, Jason joined Green Day's side project, the Foxboro Hot Tubs, as the lead guitarist. He also toured with Green Day in 2009 for their album 21st Century Breakdown.
Other Bands and Projects
Before and during his time with Green Day, Jason White was involved in many other music groups.
In 1992, he played guitar for a punk band called Monsula. He later moved to California and joined other bands. In 1996, he joined the Big Cats, a band made up of musicians from different groups. They play live shows only once in a while.
Jason also started a band called The Influents with Bill Schneider from Pinhead Gunpowder. They wanted a band they could focus on more regularly. Jason and another member, Greg Schneider, wrote the songs and shared singing duties.
In 2006, Jason recorded a cover of the song "Torture" by the band The Replacements. In 2007, he was featured in a documentary called Towncraft, which was about the punk music scene in his hometown of Little Rock, Arkansas.
Personal Life
Jason White married Janna Rollins in 2005. They have two children. Their son, Sonny, was born in 2013, and their daughter, Shelby, was born in 2014.
In late 2014, doctors found that he had tonsil cancer. He received treatment and has recovered.
