Playing Basketball in College
Jason Williams played college basketball at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). He was a key player for the Miners, helping them reach the postseason three times in a row. During his three years at UTEP, his team won 72 games.
Achievements at UTEP
Jason finished his college career with impressive stats: 1,225 points, 614 rebounds, and 300 assists. Rebounds are when a player gets the ball after a missed shot, and assists are when a player passes the ball to a teammate who then scores. He was recognized for his skills, being named to the Second Team All-Conference USA. He also made the 2005 All-WAC Defense Team and the 2004 WAC All-Tournament Team.
Making History with a Triple-Double
On March 14, 2006, near the end of his college career, Jason Williams achieved something special. He recorded the first triple-double in UTEP school history. A triple-double means a player gets double-digit numbers (10 or more) in three different stats during one game. Jason had 17 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists in an NIT Tournament victory against Lipscomb.
Professional Basketball Career
After college, Jason Williams began his professional basketball journey. In 2006, he joined the Israeli League club Bnei HaSharon.
Playing for Different Teams
In 2008, he moved to another Israeli club, Maccabi Tel Aviv, which is a very well-known team in Europe. In 2009, he played for Ironi Nahariya. Later, on June 13, 2017, Williams joined the French club Roanne, which plays in the LNB Pro B league.
A Challenging Moment in Practice
During his college career, Jason Williams faced a difficult situation. On December 7, 2005, he was temporarily suspended by UTEP. This happened after an intense practice session where a teammate was injured. Jason was a very important player for the team. His teammate, Stefon Jackson, who was involved in the incident, spoke to their coach, Doc Sadler. Jackson asked the coach to let Jason play again for the good of the team. Because of this, Jason's suspension lasted only one game. This shows how important teamwork and supporting each other can be, even during tough times.
