Jasper Stuyven (born on April 17, 1992) is a professional cyclist from Belgium. He rides for a top team called Lidl–Trek. Jasper is known as a "classics specialist." This means he is very good at winning long, tough one-day races.
He has won some really big races. These include the 2021 Milan–San Remo, which is one of cycling's most important "monument" races. He also won the 2020 Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and the 2016 Kuurne–Brussels–Kuurne. Jasper has also done well in races that last several days, like the 2019 Deutschland Tour. He even won a stage in the 2015 Vuelta a España, a major three-week race. Jasper has also competed in the famous Tour de France six times.

Jasper Stuyven's Cycling Journey
Starting as a Junior Rider
Jasper was born in Leuven, Belgium. He was a very successful young cyclist. In 2009, when he was just 17, he won the Junior World Road Race Championships. This is a huge win for young riders. In 2010, he won more races, including the junior versions of Paris-Roubaix Juniors and Remouchamps–Ferrières–Remouchamps.
First Professional Years
Jasper became a professional cyclist at age 20. He rode for the Bontrager–Livestrong team. During this time, he won four races, including the Volta ao Alentejo.
Joining Trek Factory Racing (2014–Present)
2014: First Grand Tour
In 2014, Jasper joined the Trek Factory Racing team. He was 22 years old. This year, he rode in his first "Grand Tour," which was the 2014 Vuelta a España. He finished fourth in three different stages of this race.
2015: A Big Stage Win
In 2015, Jasper got his biggest win yet. He won Stage 8 of the 2015 Vuelta a España. He won in a sprint finish against a small group of riders. Sadly, he had a crash earlier in that stage. He had to leave the race after his win because he broke a bone in his wrist.
2016: Winning a Classic Race
In 2016, Jasper won the Kuurne–Brussels–Kuurne race in Belgium. He rode away from everyone else for the last 17 kilometers and won by himself. He also finished fifth in another important race, the E3 Harelbeke. Later that year, he rode in the 2016 Tour de France. He even wore the polka-dot jersey for two days. This jersey is given to the leader of the mountains classification.
2017: Close Finishes
In 2017, Jasper was part of the main group at Paris–Roubaix. He finished fourth in the final sprint. He also rode in the 2017 Giro d'Italia. In one stage, he finished second after being in a breakaway group for almost the entire 217-kilometer race.
2018: Top Finishes and Home Wins
Jasper had many top 10 finishes in 2018. He was 4th in Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and 5th in Paris–Roubaix. In the 2018 Tour de France, he almost won a stage but was caught near the end. He still won the "combativity award" for being the most aggressive rider that day. In September, he won the Grand Prix de Wallonie. Then he won his hometown race in Leuven, called the Grote Prijs Jef Scherens.
2019: Overall Race Victory
In August 2019, Jasper won the overall title at the 2019 Deutschland Tour. He took the lead on the third stage and held it. He continued his strong performance in the autumn races, getting several top ten results. This included two podium finishes.
2020: A Strong Start to the Season
Jasper started the 2020 season very well. He won the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, beating another Belgian rider in a sprint. The next day, he finished fifth in Kuurne–Brussels–Kuurne.
2021: Monumental Win
On March 20, 2021, Jasper won Milan-San Remo. This was his first "Monument" victory. With only three kilometers left, he attacked on the final climb. Other riders hesitated to chase him. He held on to win right at the finish line, just ahead of the main group.
Life Outside of Cycling
Jasper studied at the Sint-Pieterscollege in Leuven. Besides cycling, he has a special hobby. He and his uncle Ivan, who is an experienced chocolatier, opened a small chocolate shop in Betekom in 2016. It's called Chocolade Atelier Stuyven. They often make chocolates shaped like cycling items!
