Early Life and Music
Jayanthi Kyle was born around 1979. Her father was from India, and her mother was Native American and Black. Her family moved from Ford Heights, Illinois to Maple Grove, Minnesota. She spent her childhood in Maple Grove and also in Chicago's South Side.
Jayanthi found her love for singing at a young age. Her mother encouraged her musical talent. She also sang in different church congregations with her sister. Both of her parents were preachers, which meant music was a big part of her early life.

Jayanthi Kyle has created and joined many musical groups. She uses her music to share important messages and connect with people.
Black Audience Band
Jayanthi started the band Black Audience. They first performed at an event called PalmFest. The band originally included her husband, Robin Kyle, and her brother, Luke. Later, other musicians joined the group.
Black Audience plays a mix of old gospel, country, and blues music. They also perform traditional Irish reels. Sometimes, they cover songs by famous artists like Bob Dylan and Harry Belafonte.
Music for Change
Jayanthi also sings with Jayanthi and the Crybabies. She is also part of the indie R&B group Gospel Machine. Jayanthi and Wes Burdine, the guitarist for Gospel Machine, wrote a special song. It is called "Hand in Hand."
They wrote "Hand in Hand" for the Million Artist Movement. The song was inspired by events that led to the deaths of Eric Garner and Michael Brown. It was first performed at a rally in Minnesota in December 2014. The song speaks to both police and government leaders.
Jayanthi has performed "Hand in Hand" at many important events. This includes the In the Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theatre's May Day Parade.
