Jayuya barrio-pueblo is a special part of Jayuya, a town in Puerto Rico. It's like the main downtown area or the "heart" of the town. This is where the local government offices are located. In 2010, about 1,222 people lived here.
In Puerto Rico, just like in Spain, many towns have a special area called a pueblo. This area usually has a main square, also known as a plaza. You'll also find the town hall and a Catholic church there. Every year, people celebrate Fiestas patronales (patron saint festivals) in this central plaza. It's a big party for everyone!

The Central Plaza and Its Church
The central plaza is like the town's living room. It's a place where people can relax and have fun. It's also where friends and families meet up. People gather here from morning until night.
Rules for Plazas
In the early 1800s, Spanish rules called the Laws of the Indies guided how towns in Puerto Rico were built. These rules said that the plaza should be "a good place for parties" (Spanish: a propósito para las fiestas). They also said the plaza should be big enough for all the people living nearby. The streets around the plaza were designed to have comfortable walkways. These walkways protected people from the sun and rain.
The Church in the Plaza
Right across from the central plaza in Jayuya barrio-pueblo is a Roman Catholic church. Its name is Parroquia Nuestra Señora de la Monserrate. It's an important building for the community.
