Jean Darnel (born in 1923, died November 20, 2020) was a talented French actor and director. He was known for his work in theatre and for starting important music and arts festivals in France.

Jean Darnel's Early Life and Career
Jean Darnel grew up in the 1930s, spending time in both Bayonne and Paris. From a young age, Jean wanted to be an actor. He met the famous writer Marcel Achard to ask for advice. Achard sent him to the Théâtre des Mathurins, where Jean first performed on July 1, 1942.
In 1945, Jean Darnel acted in a special play at the Théâtre du Châtelet. This performance was for children who had lost their parents during World War II. It was also for members of the French Resistance, who were brave people fighting for France during the war.
Creating Festivals and Later Work
Jean Darnel helped create the new Chorégies d'Orange festival in 1971, working with Jacques Bourgeois. This is a famous opera festival held in an ancient Roman theatre. He also started the Festival de Nohant and the Musique en Côte Basque, which are other important cultural events.
In 1996, Jean Darnel began hosting a radio show called Libre journal du spectacle on Radio Courtoisie. Jean Darnel passed away in Paris on November 20, 2020.
