Jeffrey "Jeff" Grayer (born December 17, 1965) is a former American professional basketball player. He played for nine seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Jeff was a top college player and won a bronze medal at the 1988 Olympics.

Early Life and College Career

Jeff Grayer grew up in Flint, Michigan. He became a star shooting guard at Iowa State University. He played for the Iowa State Cyclones from 1985 to 1988. During his time there, he scored 2,502 points. This is still the most points scored by any player in Iowa State's history!

He was named an All-American in 1988. He was also chosen three times for the All-Big Eight team. His jersey number, 44, was later retired by Iowa State. This means no other player can wear that number for the team.

Olympic Games

In 1988, Jeff Grayer was chosen to be part of the United States Olympic basketball team. The team competed at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea. They won a bronze medal, which is a big achievement for any athlete.

Playing in the NBA

After the Olympics, Jeff Grayer was picked by the Milwaukee Bucks in the 1988 NBA draft. He was the 13th player chosen overall in the first round. He played nine seasons in the NBA. During his career, he played for five different teams. These teams included the Milwaukee Bucks, Golden State Warriors, Philadelphia 76ers, Sacramento Kings, and Charlotte Hornets.

Jeff Grayer was known as a "journeyman" in the NBA. This means he played for several different teams throughout his career. He was a solid player who contributed to each team he joined.

Life After Playing

After his playing career, Jeff Grayer stayed involved in basketball. In April 2010, he became an assistant coach for the men's basketball team at Iowa State. He worked under coach Greg McDermott.

Later that year, McDermott left Iowa State. A new coach, Fred Hoiberg, took over. Hoiberg offered Grayer a different role as Director of Basketball Operations. However, Jeff Grayer decided to leave shortly after. He wanted to continue coaching. He moved back to his home state of Michigan.

Jeff Grayer is also the father of Jaire Grayer, who is also a professional basketball player.
