Playing Career

Starting in the NBA

After playing for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Jeff McInnis was chosen in the 1996 NBA draft. The Denver Nuggets picked him in the second round. He then played for the Quad City Thunder in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA). He was with the Thunder from 1997 to 2000.

Success in the CBA

Jeff won a CBA championship with the Thunder in 1998. That same year, he was named the CBA Newcomer of the Year. He was also chosen for the All-CBA Second Team and the All-Defensive Team. In 2000, he earned the title of CBA Most Valuable Player. He was also part of the All-CBA First Team.

Playing for NBA Teams

During his time in the NBA, Jeff McInnis played for several teams. These included the Nuggets, the New Jersey Nets, and the Cleveland Cavaliers. He also played for the Portland Trail Blazers, the Los Angeles Clippers, and the Washington Wizards.

Time with the Nets and Bobcats

For the 2005–06 season, Jeff joined the New Jersey Nets. He was brought in to support their star player, Jason Kidd. Jeff played limited minutes and had a knee injury in January. This injury caused him to miss a lot of playing time.

Before the 2006 playoffs, the Nets decided not to play Jeff. They tried to trade him or end his contract. These attempts were not successful. So, Jeff was on the team roster but did not play during the 2006–07 season.

On January 3, 2007, the Charlotte Bobcats got Jeff from the Nets. He played 38 games for Charlotte. He averaged 4.3 points and 3.3 assists per game. The Bobcats released him from the team on February 29, 2008.
