Jeff McInnis's Basketball Journey
Jeff McInnis started his basketball journey in high school. He played for West Charlotte High School and later for Oak Hill Academy. He was a very talented player, earning honors like being a Parade All-American and a McDonald's All-American.
College Years
After high school, Jeff played college basketball for the University of North Carolina. He played there for three years, from 1993 to 1996. During his time in college, he was recognized as a strong player, making the All-ACC team twice.
Starting in the NBA
In 1996, after his junior year of college, Jeff McInnis was chosen by the Denver Nuggets in the second round of the 1996 NBA draft. This was a big step for him, as he began his professional basketball career.
Playing in the CBA
Before playing a lot in the NBA, Jeff spent three seasons with the Quad City Thunder in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA). This league was a great place for him to show his skills. In 1998, he was named the CBA Newcomer of the Year. He also made the All-CBA Second Team and the All-Defensive Team. In 2000, he was even named the CBA Most Valuable Player (MVP). He also made the All-CBA First Team that year.
NBA Teams
During his time in the National Basketball Association, Jeff McInnis played for several teams. He played for the Denver Nuggets, New Jersey Nets, Cleveland Cavaliers, Portland Trail Blazers, Los Angeles Clippers, and Washington Wizards. He was known as a point guard or shooting guard.
In the 2005–06 season, Jeff joined the New Jersey Nets. He helped the team, often playing as a backup for star player Jason Kidd. He faced a knee injury that season, which kept him off the court for some time.
Later, in 2007, Jeff was traded to the Charlotte Bobcats. He played 38 games for the Bobcats, averaging about 4 points and 3 assists per game. He left the team in 2008.
Coaching Career
After his playing career, Jeff McInnis started coaching. He wanted to help young basketball players.
Coaching Young Talent
In 2009, Jeff started his own AAU basketball program called Team Charlotte. This program helps young athletes develop their skills. In 2015, he was honored as the 17U National Coach of the Year, showing how good he was at guiding young players.
From 2019 to 2022, he was the national head basketball coach at Combine Academy in Lincolnton, North Carolina.
College Coaching
In April 2024, Jeff McInnis took on a new role. He became an assistant coach for the Charleston Cougars college team. This was his first coaching job at the college level.
