Jeffrey Mark Robinson (December 14, 1961 – October 26, 2014) was an American pitcher. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for six seasons. From 1987 to 1992, he pitched for teams like the Detroit Tigers, Baltimore Orioles, Texas Rangers, and Pittsburgh Pirates. He was a right-handed pitcher.

Jeff Robinson's Baseball Journey

Starting His Career

Jeff Robinson was first chosen by baseball teams right out of high school. The Toronto Blue Jays picked him in 1979. The San Diego Padres also drafted him in 1980. However, Robinson decided to go to college instead. He played both basketball and baseball at Azusa Pacific Christian College.

He didn't sign a professional baseball contract until 1983. That year, the Detroit Tigers picked him in the third round of the MLB Draft. He then spent three seasons playing in the Tigers' minor league system. This helped him get ready for the big leagues.

Playing in the Major Leagues

Robinson made it to Major League Baseball in 1987 with the Detroit Tigers. In his very first season, he even played in the 1987 American League Championship Series. This was a big playoff series against the Minnesota Twins.

His best season came in 1988, his second year in the majors. He won 13 games that year. He also had a great ERA of 2.98. An ERA shows how few runs a pitcher allows. Robinson played three more seasons with the Tigers.

Moving to Other Teams

In 1991, the Tigers traded Robinson to the Baltimore Orioles. He pitched for the Orioles for one season. After that, he played for the Texas Rangers and the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1992.

During 1992, Robinson started pitching more often as a relief pitcher. This means he would come into the game after another pitcher. He didn't start as many games that year. After the 1992 season, he played for the Tigers' minor league team, the Toledo Mud Hens. He never played in the major leagues again after that.

Career Highlights

Jeff Robinson finished his MLB career with 47 wins and 40 losses. His career ERA was 4.79. He played in 141 games during his time in the major leagues. Sometimes, people called him "Jeff M. Robinson" to tell him apart from another baseball player named Jeff D. Robinson.

Later Life and Passing

After his baseball career, Jeff Robinson continued to be involved in the sport. He worked as a pitching director, coach, and instructor. He taught young players at the Natural Baseball Academy in Olathe, Kansas.

Jeff Robinson passed away on October 26, 2014, at the age of 52. He had been dealing with health issues for about seven weeks.
