Jennifer Hou facts for kids
Chao-Ju Jennifer Hou (born September 26, 1964 – died December 2, 2007) was a brilliant computer scientist and electrical engineer from Taiwan. She was especially good at working with wireless sensor networks. These are like invisible networks of tiny devices that collect information without needing wires!
About Her Life
Jennifer was born in Taipei, Taiwan, in 1964. She loved studying electrical engineering and got her first degree from National Taiwan University in 1987.
Then, she moved to the United States to study even more! She went to the University of Michigan. There, she earned two master's degrees and a Ph.D. (which is the highest degree you can get) by 1993. She was really dedicated to learning!
After finishing her studies, Jennifer became a professor. She taught at the University of Wisconsin–Madison starting in 1993. Later, she moved to Ohio State University in 1996. In 2001, she joined the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. There, she led a special group called the Illinois Network Design and Experimentation (INDEX) group.
Sadly, Jennifer passed away on December 2, 2007, after battling cancer.
Her Amazing Work
Jennifer Hou was honored even after she passed away. In 2008, she was named an IEEE Fellow. This is a very high honor for engineers and scientists. It means she made very important contributions to how wireless communication networks work.
Her special certificate was given to her son at a big meeting called the 2008 Conference on Computer Communications (INFOCOM). This conference was also dedicated to remembering her and her amazing work.
