Jenny Bannister was born in 1954 in Mildura, a town in Victoria, Australia. When she was a teenager, she moved to Melbourne with her sister. Jenny loved fashion and decided to study Fashion Design at RMIT. She finished her studies in 1974. After graduating, she worked in clothing shops on Melbourne's Chapel Street. Soon after, she decided to start her very own fashion brand.
Fashion Career Highlights
In 1976, Jenny Bannister started her own fashion company called "Jenny Bannister Fashion" in Melbourne. Her designs first appeared during a time when fashion was becoming very bold and new. Later, her brand grew to create very fancy, custom-made clothes and high-end boutique styles.
During the 1980s, Jenny's work was shown at events by the Fashion Design Council. This group helped new and different fashion designers. In 1988, Jenny successfully started designing modern evening wear. Many famous people now love and wear her designs. Her clothes are often seen at the Melbourne Fashion Festival. Some of her special pieces have even been sold at auctions in London.
Because Jenny's designs are so creative and special, many of her important clothing pieces are now kept in big art galleries and museums. The National Gallery of Victoria collects her work from the 1970s and 1980s. Some of her designs were even part of a big show in 2016 called "200 Years of Australian Fashion."
