Jensen Atwood was born and raised in South Central, Los Angeles, where he still lives today. He has two younger sisters, Monica and Ashley, and two older brothers, Gilbert and Jason. Jensen studied acting at California State University, Long Beach. He also trained at Playhouse West in Los Angeles and with acting coach Eric Morris.

Jensen Atwood started his career in entertainment by appearing in many music videos and stage plays. He also worked as a model. Jensen has been featured on the covers of magazines like Krave, Bleu, and Ballroom Rockstar. He also appeared in a special photo spread for Flaunt Magazine.
Jensen has been in commercials for big brands such as Walmart, Corona, Coors Light, KFC, K-Swiss, and AT&T. He even sang backup for the famous singer Tyrese.

In 2005, Jensen Atwood played Johnny Taylor in the ABC television movie Oprah Winfrey Presents: Their Eyes Were Watching God. In this film, he acted alongside the famous actress Halle Berry.
He also played Wade Robinson in the Logo TV series Noah's Arc. This show was important because it was one of the first TV series to feature Black characters in leading roles. Jensen has mentioned that playing Wade was his most challenging role. He played Wade again in the 2008 movie Noah's Arc: Jumping the Broom, which was a spin-off from the TV show.
