Dr. Jeppiaar (born June 11, 1931 – died June 18, 2016) was an important person from India. He was known as an educationist (someone who works to improve education), a politician, and a businessman. He was born in Muttom, a place near Nagercoil in what is now the Kanyakumari District of Tamil Nadu.
Dr. Jeppiaar earned a law degree from Madras University and a PhD from Anna University. He was the person who started and led the Jeppiaar Educational Trust. He also founded and was the leader of Sathyabama University. He played a big part in starting many private engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu.

Early Life and Family
Jeppiaar grew up in a Christian family. His father was Jesuadimai and his mother was Panimalar Ammal. He later named some of his educational institutions, like Panimalar, after his mother. He was also a close friend of the famous politician M. G. Ramachandran.
His Political Work
During the time when M. G. Ramachandran was the Chief Minister, Dr. Jeppiaar held important government roles. He was the chief whip of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Council. This means he helped make sure that members of his political party voted together on important issues.
He also served as the Secretary of the Chennai District for the AIADMK political party from 1972 to 1987. He was a special helper to the Chief Minister during this time.

His Passing Away
Dr. Jeppiaar passed away on June 18, 2016. He was 85 years old. He suddenly had trouble breathing and was taken to Global Hospital in Perumbakkam, Chennai. Sadly, he was declared dead when he arrived at the hospital.
His funeral was held at Sathyabama University in Chennai on June 19, 2016. Many people came to say goodbye, including students, teachers, politicians, and film stars. He was laid to rest at the entrance of the university.
Memorial Museum
To honor Dr. Jeppiaar, a special museum was opened at Sathyabama University on June 17, 2017. This museum was launched by Dr. Regeena Jeppiaar, just one day before his first death anniversary. It is the first museum in India dedicated only to an educationist.
The museum shows many pictures of Dr. Jeppiaar. These pictures tell the story of his life and all his achievements in education, culture, and social work, from when he was a child until he passed away. It also displays some of his personal belongings. An artist named Mr. A. P. Sridhar designed the entire museum. Many important people from the film and education fields attended the opening.
