Jeren's Baseball Journey
High School and College Years
Jeren Kendall went to Holmen High School in Holmen, Wisconsin. He was a fantastic baseball player there. In 2013, when he was a junior, he was named the Baseball Player of the Year by the La Crosse Tribune. He hit very well, with four home runs and 15 runs batted in (RBI). An RBI means he helped his teammates score runs.
As a senior, Jeren was honored as the Gatorade Baseball Player of the Year for Wisconsin. This is a big award for young athletes! The Boston Red Sox picked him in the 2014 Major League Baseball Draft. However, Jeren decided not to sign with them. Instead, he chose to go to Vanderbilt University to play college baseball for the Commodores.
At Vanderbilt, Jeren played in 60 games as a freshman in 2015. He hit well and helped his team. During the College World Series, he hit a special walk-off home run. This means his home run won the game for Vanderbilt, giving them a 4–3 victory over Cal State Fullerton.
In his second year, Jeren played in 62 games. He continued to hit strongly, with nine home runs and 59 RBIs. He also stole 28 bases, showing how fast he was! In both 2015 and 2016, he played summer baseball for the Cotuit Kettleers in the Cape Cod Baseball League. This league is famous for helping college players get ready for professional baseball.
