Jerian Grant (born October 9, 1992) is an American professional basketball player. He plays for Panathinaikos, a team in Greece. They play in the Greek Basketball League (GBL) and the EuroLeague.
Jerian played college basketball at the University of Notre Dame. He was one of the best college players in the country during the 2014–15 season. In the 2015 NBA draft, he was picked 19th overall by the Washington Wizards. His rights were then traded to the Atlanta Hawks and later to the New York Knicks. Many people think Grant is one of the best defenders in the EuroLeague.
College Basketball Journey
After playing high school basketball at DeMatha Catholic High School, Jerian Grant went to Notre Dame. He played for coach Mike Brey.
Starting at Notre Dame
Jerian didn't play in his first year, which is called "redshirting." In his second year, he was named to the Big East Conference All-Rookie team. He averaged about 12 points and 5 assists per game. In his third year, he was named second-team All-Big East. He averaged about 13 points and 5.5 assists per game.
Moving to the ACC
After the 2012–13 season, Notre Dame joined a new league called the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). Jerian was expected to do well in this new league. He started the season strong, scoring about 19 points per game. However, in December 2013, he had to leave Notre Dame for the rest of the season due to academic reasons. Jerian decided to return to Notre Dame instead of trying to join the NBA early.
Senior Year Success
Jerian came back to Notre Dame for the 2014–15 season. He quickly helped his team start with a great record. He became the team's leader and had an amazing season. The Irish finished the year with 32 wins and 6 losses. They also won the ACC Tournament championship. They made it to the Elite 8 in the NCAA tournament, where they lost a close game to an undefeated Kentucky team.
Professional Basketball Career
Jerian Grant has played for several teams in the NBA and in Europe.
New York Knicks (2015–2016)
In the 2015 NBA draft, the Washington Wizards picked Jerian 19th overall. His rights were then traded to the Atlanta Hawks and finally to the New York Knicks. He joined the Knicks for the NBA Summer League. There, he averaged about 12 points, 3 rebounds, and 5 assists per game. In July 2015, he signed his first contract with the Knicks. He had some good games, including one with 16 points and 8 assists against the Boston Celtics.
Chicago Bulls (2016–2018)
In June 2016, Jerian was traded to the Chicago Bulls. He helped the Bulls win the Las Vegas Summer League championship. He was even named the MVP of that tournament. In November 2016, he had a strong game with 18 points and 5 steals against the Portland Trail Blazers. He also spent some time playing for the Windy City Bulls, which is the Bulls' minor league team. In April 2017, he had 17 points and a career-high 11 assists in a big win over the Orlando Magic.
In November 2017, Jerian scored a career-high 24 points against the Miami Heat. He also had a game with 11 points, 12 assists, and 7 rebounds against the Indiana Pacers.
Orlando Magic (2018–2019)
In July 2018, Jerian was traded to the Orlando Magic. He played one season with them. In June 2019, he became a free agent, meaning he could sign with any team.
Capital City Go-Go (2019–2020)
In November 2019, Jerian joined the Capital City Go-Go. This team is part of the NBA G League. In January 2020, he scored 28 points in a game. He averaged about 16 points and 6 assists per game for the Go-Go.
Washington Wizards (2020)
In July 2020, Jerian signed with the Washington Wizards. He was later signed and then waived by the Houston Rockets in December 2020.
Promitheas Patras (2020–2021)
In December 2020, Jerian moved to Greece to play for Promitheas Patras. His older brother, Jerai, also played for this team. In 27 games in the Greek Basket League, Jerian averaged about 15 points, 4 rebounds, and 7 assists.
Olimpia Milano (2021–2022)
In July 2021, Jerian signed a two-year deal with Olimpia Milano in Italy. They play in the Lega Basket Serie A and the EuroLeague. He won both the Italian league and cup titles with the team. In July 2022, he left the club.
Türk Telekom (2022–2023)
In July 2022, Jerian signed with Türk Telekom in Turkey. In their league, he averaged about 16 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 5.7 assists. He helped his team finish first in the regular season.
He also played in the EuroCup matches. He averaged about 15 points, 3 rebounds, and 6 assists. His team made it to the final game. For his great performance, Jerian was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the 2022–2023 EuroCup season.
Panathinaikos (2023–present)
In July 2023, Jerian signed a one-year contract with Panathinaikos, a very strong team in Greece. In July 2024, he signed a new contract for two more seasons. In June 2025, he signed another contract extension, keeping him with the team until 2028.
Jerian Grant's Family
Jerian Grant comes from a family of basketball players. His father, Harvey Grant, used to play in the National Basketball Association (NBA).
Jerian has three brothers. Two of them also play basketball professionally. His older brother, Jerai, has played in many leagues around the world. His younger brother, Jerami, plays for the Portland Trail Blazers in the NBA. His youngest brother, Jaelin, also went to DeMatha High School.
Jerian's uncle, Horace Grant, is his father's identical twin. Horace was an NBA All-Star and won four championships. He won with the Chicago Bulls and the Los Angeles Lakers.
Jerian also has two sons, Hunter Jrue and Harper Jrex Grant, and a daughter, Haidyn Jream Grant.
