Jessica Rose Epel Alupo, known as Jessica Alupo, is an important leader in Uganda. She is currently the Vice President of Uganda, a role she started in 2021. Before this, she was a teacher and even worked in the military.
Jessica Alupo also served as the Minister of Education and Sports from 2011 to 2016. She is also a member of parliament for the Katakwi District. This means she helps represent the people of Katakwi in making laws for the country.

Early Life and Education
Jessica Alupo was born in Katakwi District on May 23, 1974. She went to Apuuton Primary School for her early education. Later, she attended Kangole Girls School for her O-Level studies. For her A-Level education, she studied at Ngora High School.
After high school, Jessica Alupo trained to be a high school canteen attendant. She also completed an officer cadet course at the Uganda Junior Staff College in Jinja. This course trains people to become officers in the military.
University Studies
Jessica Alupo has several university degrees. In 1997, she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and linguistics from Makerere University. She continued her studies at Makerere University and received a Master of Arts degree in international relations and diplomacy in 2008.
She also studied at the Uganda Management Institute (UMI). In 2008, she earned a Diploma in public administration and management from UMI. The next year, in 2009, she received her second master's degree. This was a Master's in public administration and management, also from Makerere University.
Career and Public Service
Jessica Alupo has worked in many different roles throughout her career.
Early Work Experience
- She worked as a teacher at Katakwi High School in the Eastern Region of Uganda.
- She was an instructor at the Uganda Urban Warfare Training School in Singo.
- She also worked as an intelligence officer in Kampala, Uganda's capital city.
Entering Politics
In 2001, Jessica Alupo decided to enter politics. She ran to become the women's representative for Katakwi District. She was part of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) political party. She won the election and was re-elected in 2006.
In 2009, she was appointed as the state minister for youth and children affairs. This role meant she helped with government programs for young people and children. In 2011, she was re-elected to her parliamentary seat again.
Minister of Education
Later in 2011, she was promoted to a bigger role. She became the Minister of Education and Sports. In this important position, she was in charge of Uganda's education system and sports development. She held this role until 2016.
Vice President of Uganda
In 2021, Jessica Alupo was appointed as the ninth Vice President of Uganda. This is a very high position in the government. As Vice President, she works closely with the President of Uganda.
Personal Life
Jessica Alupo is married to Innocent Tukashaba. She enjoys reading books, helping her community, and traveling to new places.
