Jessica Rose Epel Alupo, known as Jessica Alupo, is a Ugandan politician. She is currently the Vice President of Uganda, a role she has held since 2021. She is the ninth person to hold this important position.
Before becoming Vice President, Jessica Alupo was an educator (teacher) and also served in the military. She was a minister in the Ugandan government, specifically the Minister of Education, from 2011 to 2016. She is also an elected Member of Parliament for the women of Katakwi District.

Early Life and Schooling
Jessica Alupo was born in Katakwi District, Uganda, on May 23, 1974. She started her education at Apuuton Primary School. Later, she attended Kangole Girls School for her O-Level studies. For her A-Level education, she went to Ngora High School.
After high school, Alupo trained to work in a school canteen. She then joined the military and completed an officer cadet course at the Uganda Junior Staff College in Jinja.
University Education
Jessica Alupo has studied a lot! She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and linguistics in 1997 from Makerere University. She continued her studies at the same university. In 2008, she received her first master's degree, a Master of Arts in international relations and diplomacy.
She also studied at the Uganda Management Institute (UMI). In 2008, she earned a Diploma in public administration and management. The next year, in 2009, she received her second master's degree, a Master of Public Administration and Management, also from Makerere University.
Career and Public Service
Jessica Alupo has had many different jobs throughout her career. She worked as a teacher at Katakwi High School in the Eastern Region of Uganda. She also served as an instructor at the Uganda Urban Warfare Training School. This school is located in Singo, Nakaseke District, in the Central Region of Uganda.
She also worked as an intelligence officer in Kampala, which is Uganda's capital city.
Entering Politics
In 2001, Jessica Alupo decided to enter politics. She ran to become the women's representative for Katakwi District. She was part of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) political party. She won the election and was re-elected in 2006.
In 2009, she was appointed as the State Minister for Youth and Children's Affairs. This role meant she helped with government programs for young people. In 2011, she was re-elected to her parliamentary seat again.
Later in 2011, she was promoted to a bigger role. She became the Minister of Education and Sports. She took over this position from Namirembe Bitamazire.
Personal Life
Jessica Alupo is married to Major Innocent Tukashaba. She enjoys reading books, helping her community, and traveling to new places.
