Jestetten is a small town, also called a municipality, in the Waldshut district of Baden-Württemberg, a state in Germany. It is located right on the border with Switzerland. This makes Jestetten a special place, as it has close ties to both countries.
Where is Jestetten?
Jestetten is found in the very south of Germany. It's part of the Freiburg region. The town sits at an elevation of about 436 meters (1,430 feet) above sea level. Its total area is around 20.63 square kilometers (about 8 square miles).
Life in Jestetten
As of 2006, about 5,170 people lived in Jestetten. The town has its own local government. The mayor, Ira Sattler, is in charge of running the town's daily activities. She works to make sure Jestetten is a good place to live for everyone.
Being a Border Town
Being on the border with Switzerland has always been important for Jestetten. For many years, from 1840 to 1935, Jestetten was part of a special "customs exclusion zone." This meant that goods moving between Jestetten and Switzerland had different rules than other parts of Germany. This history shows how connected Jestetten has been to its neighbor.
