Jatki or Jhangochi is a very old and special way of speaking the Punjabi language. People who speak it often just call it Jatki. It's like a unique accent or dialect within Punjabi.

This dialect is spoken in a large area of Punjab, a region that crosses parts of both Pakistan and India.

Where is Jatki Spoken?

Jatki is spoken in many places. It starts near the Ravi River and Chenab River in areas like Khanewal and Jhang. Then it stretches towards Gujranwala District.

It also goes down to areas like Bahawalnagar and Chishtian, which are close to the Sutlej River. You can hear Jatki in districts such as Jhang, Faisalabad, Khanewal, Vehari, Chiniot, and Sargodha.

A few parts of Sheikhpura, Muzaffargarh, and Bahawalpur districts in Pakistani Punjab also speak it. In Indian Punjab, it's spoken in the Fazilka district. All these places share similar traditions and culture.

What Makes Jatki Special?

The Jatki dialect has several features that make it different from other Punjabi dialects. It's known for being very traditional and keeping older forms of the language.

This area is also famous for its rich culture and history, especially in literature. Two very famous love stories, Heer Ranjha and Mirza Sahiba, were created in this region. These stories are important parts of Punjabi heritage.

Jatki is often spoken in areas called 'Bar'. These are dry, fertile lands between rivers. You might hear names like Sandal Bar, Kirana Bar, Neeli Bar, and Ganji Bar.
