Playing Career Highlights
Starting in the Czech Republic
Štajner began his football journey in the youth teams of SK Dynamo České Budějovice. Early on, he joined Slavia Prague, one of the best teams in the league. However, he did not play much for their main team. He continued his youth career with TJ Senohraby, a local amateur club near his hometown of Benešov.
In 1998, Štajner moved to MUS Most to help his career grow. His big break came in 2000 when he signed with Slovan Liberec. There, he became known as an excellent goalscorer. He also gained attention for his performances in European competitions like the UEFA Cup. During the 2001–02 season, he was the top goalscorer in the Czech First League with 15 goals. Slovan Liberec also won the league title that season.
Time with Hannover 96
In the summer of 2002, Štajner joined Hannover 96, a team in the German Bundesliga. He quickly became a favorite of coach Ralf Rangnick. Hannover 96 paid €3.5 million for him, making him the most expensive player in the club's history at that time.
When he first arrived in Germany, it was a bit hard for him to get used to the new style of play. He became a regular starter in his second season. On May 22, 2003, Štajner scored a very important goal against Borussia Mönchengladbach. This goal helped Hannover 96 stay in the top league, and the match ended in a 2–2 draw. This moment helped him become a beloved player for the club.
On May 15, 2010, he announced that he would return to his former club, Slovan Liberec. In 2015, he played for a lower league Czech team called TJ Spartak Chrastava.
International Matches
Štajner was also a member of the Czech Republic national team. He played for his country in the 2006 FIFA World Cup.
Coaching Career
After his playing career, Štajner moved into coaching. On January 14, 2020, he became an assistant coach for Arsenal Česká Lípa. As of September 12, 2024, Štajner is the manager of Turnov.
