Club Career
Starting in the Czech Republic
Jiří Štajner began his football journey in the youth teams of SK Dynamo České Budějovice. When he was young, one of the best teams in the league, Slavia Prague, noticed him. However, he didn't quite make it into their main team. He continued his youth career with TJ Senohraby, an amateur club near his hometown of Benešov.
In 1998, Štajner moved to MUS Most to help his career grow. But his big break came at the start of the new millennium. This was when he joined Slovan Liberec. He became known as an excellent goalscorer. People also noticed his great performances in European games, especially in the UEFA Cup.
In the 2001–02 season, he was the top goalscorer in the Czech First League with 15 goals. That same season, Slovan Liberec won the league title! In the summer of 2002, a German team called Hannover 96 signed Štajner.
Playing for Hannover 96
Štajner quickly became a favorite of the coach, Ralf Rangnick. Hannover 96 paid his old club €3.5 million to get him. This made Štajner the most expensive player in the history of Hannover 96 at that time.
When he first started playing in Germany, it was a bit hard for him to get used to the style of play. He became a regular player in his second season. On May 22, 2003, Štajner did something very important for the club. He scored a key goal against Borussia Mönchengladbach. This goal helped Hannover stay in the top league. The game ended in a 2–2 draw.
On May 15, 2010, he announced that he would return to his former club, Slovan Liberec. After that, in 2015, he joined a lower league Czech team called TJ Spartak Chrastava.
International Career
Štajner was also a member of the Czech Republic national team. He played for his country in the 2006 FIFA World Cup, which is one of the biggest football tournaments in the world.
