Jill's Early Life and Music Journey
Jill Johnson grew up in a small town in Sweden called Ängelholm. From a very young age, around four years old, she knew she wanted to be a singer. Her local choir leader really encouraged her dream.
When she was 12, Jill started singing in a Country & Western band called Tomboola Band. They toured around Norway and Denmark. Later, she signed a record deal in Denmark. Her song "Sugar Tree" became a hit there.
In 1996, Jill had her first hit song in Sweden. It was a duet with Jan Johansen called "Kommer tid, kommer vår".
Winning Melodifestivalen
In 1998, Jill performed "Kärleken är" ("Love is") in the Swedish music contest Melodifestivalen. She won the competition and went on to represent Sweden in the Eurovision Song Contest. After this success, she released a popular album called När hela världen ser på and went on a successful tour.
In 1999, Jill traveled to Los Angeles to find new songs for her next album. She worked with famous songwriters like Andreas Carlsson. Her album Daughter of Eve came out in 2000. It was very well-received, and people compared her to some of the world's best artists.
Nashville and International Success
In 2000, Jill received a Platinum record in Denmark for "Promise To Love". This song was from a popular Danish movie. Later that year, Jill started working with more songwriters. This led to her getting a music publishing contract in Nashville, Tennessee, which is a big city for country music.
In 2002, Jill released her album Good Girl. She worked with producer Scott Baggett and top musicians in Nashville. This album helped Jill find her unique sound and style. Critics praised her, saying she was an artist of international quality.
In 2003, Jill competed in the Swedish Eurovision Song Contest finals again. Her song "Crazy in Love" became a big hit on the radio. It stayed at number one on the Swedish Top Charts for 12 weeks!
Her album Discography was released in March 2003. It featured 20 of her most popular songs. The album quickly became a bestseller in Sweden and sold Gold. Jill also won a Grammis award for this album.
Her album Roots and Wings came out in November 2003. It sold Gold in less than two weeks and Platinum a few months later. Another album, Being who you are, was released in March 2005 and also sold Gold quickly.
Jill as a TV Host
Jill hosted the Swedish finals of the Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm in 2005.
In 2014, she became the host of her own Swedish music TV series, Jills veranda. In this show, she brings together Swedish and American musicians in Nashville. They perform together and share their stories. Jill spends a lot of time in Nashville working on her own music.
