James Anthony Sturgess (born on May 16, 1978) is an actor and singer from England. He is also a talented songwriter.
Jim became well-known for his role as Jude in the musical romance film Across the Universe (2007). He also played the main character, Ben Campbell, in the movie 21 (2008). You might also recognize him from The Way Back (2010) and the big science fiction film Cloud Atlas (2012).
He has appeared in many other films and TV shows. These include Stonehearst Asylum (2013), Geostorm (2017), and the TV series Feed the Beast (2016).

Early Life and Interests
Jim Sturgess was born in Wandsworth, London. He grew up in Farnham, Surrey. When he was younger, he loved skateboarding. He also enjoyed listening to hip-hop music.
Jim started his first band when he was about 15 years old. They played music in his local area. His first experience with acting was in a local theatre group. He got a part in a play after a successful try-out.
Education and Early Career
After school, Jim moved to Manchester. He went to the University of Salford. He finished his studies in 1999. He earned a degree in Media and Performance.
After university, he moved to London. He worked in a shop selling trainers. At the same time, he looked for acting jobs. He also kept writing music.
Family Life
On July 30, 2019, Jim Sturgess married theatre producer Dina Mousawi. They got married in Italy. Their son was born in 2020.

Early Major Roles
In 2007, Jim was chosen for the musical film Across the Universe. He played Jude Feeny. Jude is a young man who travels to the US in the 1960s. He falls in love with a girl named Lucy.
In 2008, Jim appeared in the historical drama The Other Boleyn Girl. He played George Boleyn. He acted alongside Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson. That same year, he played Ben Campbell in 21. This film was about five students who used card counting to win money in Las Vegas casinos.
More Film Roles
In 2009, Jim played Gavin Kossef in Crossing Over. He acted with Harrison Ford. The story was about immigrants trying to get legal status in Los Angeles. Also in 2009, he starred as Martin McGartland in Fifty Dead Men Walking.
Jim also starred in Heartless in 2009. He played Jamie Morgan, a young man with a birthmark on his face. Jim won the Best Actor Award at the 2010 Fantasporto Film Festival for this role.
In 2010, Jim starred in The Way Back. This film was based on a true story. Jim's character was based on a Polish officer who escaped from a Russian prison camp during World War II. He also voiced Soren in the animated film Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole. This movie was based on a children's book series.
Later Projects
In 2011, Jim played Dexter Mayhew in One Day. He acted with Anne Hathaway. The film followed two friends on the same day each year for 20 years.
In 2012, Jim took on many different roles in the science fiction film Cloud Atlas. He worked alongside Tom Hanks in this movie. He also filmed The Best Offer and Electric Slide in 2012.

Jim Sturgess has been writing and performing his own music since he was 15 years old. He has been part of bands like Saint Faith and Dilated Spies.
