Jing Haipeng (simplified Chinese: 景海鹏; traditional Chinese: 景海鵬; pinyin: Jǐng Hǎipéng; born October 24, 1966) is a famous Chinese astronaut. He is also a high-ranking officer in the Chinese army, called a major general. Before becoming an astronaut, he was a skilled fighter pilot in the Chinese Air Force.
Jing Haipeng was chosen to be an astronaut in 1998. He made history by being the first Chinese astronaut to fly into space more than once. In fact, he is the only Chinese astronaut to have flown on four space missions! He has spent over 201 days in space. This set a record for Chinese astronauts for a long time.

Jing Haipeng's Space Missions
Jing Haipeng has been a part of many important space missions for China. He was one of the astronauts who trained for the Shenzhou 6 mission.
Shenzhou 7: China's First Three-Person Flight
Jing Haipeng, along with Liu Boming and Zhai Zhigang, were chosen for the Shenzhou 7 mission. This was a very special mission. It was China's third human spaceflight. It was also the first time China sent three people into space at once. They launched into space on September 25, 2008.
Shenzhou 9: Commander and First Repeat Traveler
Jing Haipeng became the commander of the Shenzhou 9 mission. This made him the first Chinese astronaut to travel to space more than once. He led the first mission to connect with China's first space station, called Tiangong 1. On this mission, he flew with Liu Yang, who was the first female Chinese astronaut. The third crew member was Liu Wang. The mission launched on June 16, 2012. They returned to Earth on June 29, 2012.
Shenzhou 11: Longest Chinese Space Mission at the Time
On October 15, 2016, it was announced that Jing Haipeng would command the Shenzhou 11 mission. The spacecraft launched on October 17, 2016. It took off from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center. The mission lasted for 33 days. This made it the longest Chinese human space mission at that time.
The crew landed safely on November 18, 2016. After this mission, Jing Haipeng held the record for the most time spent in space by a Chinese citizen. He had spent 47 days in space. Later, in 2021, another astronaut named Nie Haisheng broke this record.
In July 2017, Jing Haipeng received the Order of August First. This is the highest military award in China.
Shenzhou 16: Fourth Trip to Space
On May 30, 2023, Jing Haipeng went to space for the fourth time! He was the commander of the Shenzhou 16 mission. This mission was very long. It lasted over 153 days.
Shenzhou 16 returned to Earth successfully on October 31, 2023. After this mission, Jing Haipeng's total time in space was over 201 days. This allowed him to reclaim the record for the most time in space for a Chinese astronaut.
