Jiřina Jirásková (born February 17, 1931 – died January 7, 2013) was a famous Czech actress. She was born and passed away in Prague, which is now the capital of the Czech Republic. She had a long and successful career in theatre, film, and television, becoming a beloved figure in her country.

Life and Acting Career

Jiřina Jirásková started her journey in acting by studying at the Prague Conservatory. Later, she continued her studies at DAMU, a well-known theatre school. After finishing her education, she spent one year working at a local theatre in Hradec Králové.

In 1951, when she was 20 years old, Jiřina moved to Prague. She joined the Vinohrady Theatre, a famous theatre in the city. This became her artistic home, and she spent her entire acting career there. From 1990 to 2000, she also took on the important role of being the director of the theatre.

Early TV and Film Roles

Jirásková began appearing on television in the 1950s. Her first big chance on screen was in a spy movie called Smyk. In the 1970s, during a difficult time in Czechoslovakia, she was not allowed to act for a while. However, she made a strong comeback in 1983. She starred in the film Nurses, directed by Karel Kachyňa. Over 40 years, she played more than 140 different characters in films and TV shows.

Helping Others and Public Life

Beyond acting, Jiřina Jirásková was also very active in helping others. She was a special ambassador and the President of the UNICEF Czech Committee from 2002 to 2011. UNICEF is an organization that helps children around the world. In 1999, she also tried to become a member of the Senate. This is a part of the Czech Parliament, but she was not successful in her attempt.

Personal Life

Jiřina Jirásková was married to actor Jiří Pleskot for two years. Later, she spent 27 years with Zdeněk Podskalský. She did not have any children. Jiřina Jirásková passed away on January 7, 2013, at the age of 81.
