Jo Jorgensen's Path to President

Becoming the Libertarian Nominee

Jo Jorgensen became the Libertarian Party's candidate for president in 2020. This happened on May 23, 2020, at a big meeting called the 2020 Libertarian National Convention. At this meeting, people called "delegates" voted for who they wanted to be the party's nominee. After four rounds of voting, Jorgensen won.

A Historic Nomination

This was a special moment because Jo Jorgensen was the first woman ever to be chosen as the presidential candidate for the Libertarian Party. This made her campaign historic.

Choosing a Running Mate

After Jorgensen was chosen as the presidential candidate, she needed a running mate. A running mate is the person who runs for Vice President alongside the presidential candidate. On May 24, 2020, Spike Cohen was selected to be her running mate. He had originally planned to be the running mate for another candidate, Vermin Supreme.

Support from Other Leaders

During her campaign, Jo Jorgensen received support from several other people who had also wanted to be the Libertarian presidential candidate in 2020. These people included Lincoln Chafee, Justin Amash, Adam Kokesh, Jacob Hornberger, and Vermin Supreme. A well-known former governor, Gary Johnson from New Mexico, also said he supported her on May 25.
