Joan Dougherty (2 March 1927 – 18 December 2020) was a Canadian politician. She worked in the province of Quebec.

Joan Dougherty was born in Montreal, Quebec, on March 2, 1927. Her father, Edward Mason, was a doctor. Her mother was Loretta O'Reilly.
Her Education
Joan went to The Study, which is a private school for girls. She loved learning!
She studied at McGill University. In 1947, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree. Later, in 1950, she got a Master's degree in histology. Histology is the study of tiny tissues in living things.
After McGill, she continued her studies. She went to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). There, she studied biophysics, which combines biology and physics.
Her Political Career
Joan Dougherty became a politician. She was a member of the Liberal Party.
She served as a Member of the National Assembly (MNA) for the area of Jacques-Cartier. The National Assembly of Quebec is where laws are made for the province. She held this important role from 1981 to 1987.
Her Later Life
Joan Dougherty passed away on December 18, 2020. She died from COVID-19 during the COVID-19 pandemic in Quebec.
