Joseph Aaron Banyard (born November 12, 1988) is a former American football player. He played as a running back in the National Football League (NFL). Joe played college football at UTEP. The Jacksonville Jaguars signed him in 2012 after he was not chosen in the NFL draft. He also played for the New Orleans Saints and the Minnesota Vikings before returning to the Jaguars in 2015.

Joseph Banyard grew up in Sweetwater, Texas. He went to Sweetwater High School. There, Joe was a talented athlete, playing football, running track, and competing in powerlifting.
How Joe Excelled in High School Football
In high school football, Joe first played as a defensive back. He earned special recognition for his skills. In his final year, 2007, Joe switched to playing running back. He had an amazing season, running for over 1,200 yards and scoring 21 touchdowns.
Joe's Achievements in Track and Field
Joe was also a top sprinter in track and field. In 2005, when he was a sophomore, he went to the Texas State Meet. He was part of Sweetwater's relay teams. In the 4 × 100m race, Joe ran the third part. His team finished second and set a new school record.
His teams also placed third in the 4 × 200m and 4 × 400m relays. In 2006, Joe ran the 200-meter dash in 23.21 seconds. As a senior, he placed third in the long jump at a regional meet. He also set a personal best in the 400-meter dash.

Joe Banyard's College Football Journey
Joe Banyard began his college football career at TCU. Before his first year, he moved to Eastern New Mexico University. Then, he transferred to UTEP.
Joe started playing in games during his junior year at UTEP. He became the team's main runner. He carried the ball 109 times. He gained 623 rushing yards and scored eight touchdowns.

Playing for the Jacksonville Jaguars
After the 2012 NFL draft, Joe Banyard signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He joined them as an undrafted free agent. This means he was not picked in the draft but was still offered a contract.
Time with the New Orleans Saints
On June 7, 2012, Banyard signed a contract with the New Orleans Saints. However, he was released by the team on September 13, 2012.
Joining the Minnesota Vikings
The Minnesota Vikings then signed Joe Banyard. He spent the rest of the 2012 season on their practice squad. A practice squad is where players train with the team but are not on the main roster.
He was released by the Vikings in August 2013. But he was signed back to the practice squad soon after. He was released and re-signed a few times that year. In December 2013, Banyard was added to the Vikings' active roster. He was released again shortly after but re-signed to the practice squad. The Vikings released Banyard in August 2015.
Second Time with the Jacksonville Jaguars
On October 14, 2015, Banyard joined the Jacksonville Jaguars practice squad again. This happened after two other running backs were injured. The next week, Banyard was moved to the main roster. When another player, Toby Gerhart, got hurt, Joe became the third-string running back.
The Jaguars released Banyard on September 4, 2016. He was re-signed by the team on December 27, 2016.
Playing for the Buffalo Bills
On March 17, 2017, Banyard signed with the Buffalo Bills. He was released by the Bills on October 17, 2017. However, he was re-signed on October 28, only to be released three days later.
