How Did Joe Ingram Key Get Its Name?
The island was named after a brave person named Joseph Ingram. He was a former U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer. A Petty Officer is a rank in the Coast Guard, similar to a non-commissioned officer in other military branches.
In 2004, Joseph Ingram helped rescue four fishermen. They were in trouble and floating in the water south of the key late at night. Because of his heroic actions, the island was named in his honor.
