Joseph Pinion III (born August 11, 1983) is an American who has worked as a television host, businessman, and activist. He is a member of the Republican Party. In 2022, he was chosen by the Republican and Conservative parties to run for the U.S. Senate in New York. This made him the first African American to get major party support for a U.S. Senate race in New York.

Early Life and School

Joseph Pinion III was born on August 11, 1983, in Yonkers. When he was older, he went to Colgate University. He received a special grant to play football there. In 2006, he earned a degree in English.

Pinion's Career Path

Pinion started his career helping young people at a health center in Bronx. After several years, he became a political commentator. This meant he shared his opinions on news channels like CNN. Later, he hosted a TV show called "Saturday Agenda" on Newsmax.

Pinion also cares a lot about the environment. He is an activist who works to fight climate change. Since 2017, he has worked with an organization called RepublicEn. This group encourages Republicans to support environmental protection.

Getting Involved in Politics

Before running for public office, Pinion was active in politics behind the scenes. He led a group called the Conservative Color Coalition. He also helped with outreach for the New York Young Republican Federation.

Running for State Assembly

In 2018, Pinion decided to run for the New York State Assembly. This is a part of the state government that makes laws. He was chosen by the Republican and Conservative parties to be their candidate. However, he did not win the election that year.

Running for U.S. Senate

In 2022, Pinion announced he would run for the United States Senate. This is a very important national office in the U.S. government. He received the Republican Party's official support to be their candidate.

He ran against Chuck Schumer, who was already a U.S. Senator and a leader of the Democratic Party. Pinion did not win the election. However, he received about 2.5 million votes. He got 42.8% of the votes, while Schumer got 56.8%.

Even though Pinion spent much less money on his campaign, he did very well. He had the best result for a Republican in a New York U.S. Senate race since 2000. His strong performance was part of a trend where Republicans did better than expected in New York elections that year.
