Joe Reed II (1936–1964) was a famous Quarter Horse racehorse. He was also a very important father (or "sire") to many other fast horses. He lived during the early days of the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA).

The Life of Joe Reed II

Joe Reed II was a strong stallion with a shiny chestnut coat. He was born in 1936. His breeder was J. W. House from Texas. Later, Bert H. Wood from Arizona owned him.

His Family Tree

Joe Reed II's dad was named Joe Reed P-3. His mom was Nellene. Nellene's dad was Fleeting Time, a Thoroughbred horse. This means Joe Reed II had a lot of Thoroughbred blood in him. Thoroughbreds are known for being very fast racehorses.

Racing Career

Joe Reed II was a fantastic racehorse. In 1942, he raced against another famous horse named Clabber. Joe Reed II won and was named the Champion Quarter Running Stallion.

He raced three times at that event and won every single race! In his last race, he had a foot injury. Even though his foot was bleeding, he still managed to win. This injury sadly ended his racing career early.

A Great Father of Champions

After his racing days, Joe Reed II became a very important sire. He had many famous children, including:

  • Leo P-1335
  • Little Sister W
  • Joak
  • Joe Queen
  • Tonta Lad

These horses carried on his speed and talent.

Death and Special Honors

Joe Reed II passed away in 1964 in Wyoming.

In 1994, Joe Reed II was given a very special honor. He was inducted into the AQHA Hall of Fame. This means he is remembered as one of the most important and influential horses in Quarter Horse history.
