Joseph Michael Young (born June 27, 1992) is an American professional basketball player. He currently plays for the Fujian Sturgeons in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA). Joe is the son of Michael Young, who was also a professional basketball player.
Joe played college basketball for the Houston Cougars and later the Oregon Ducks. In 2015, he was named the best player in the Pac-12 and earned All-American honors. The Indiana Pacers picked him in the 2015 NBA draft.

High School Basketball Star
Joe Young went to Yates High School in Houston, Texas. In his senior year, he was an amazing player. He scored about 27.5 points per game. He also helped his team win many games.
His team had a perfect record of 34 wins and 0 losses. They were ranked number one in the country! Joe was named the Texas Gatorade Boys’ Basketball Player of the Year. He also helped Yates win their second straight state championship. Joe was even named the Most Valuable Player of the state final game.
College Journey
Joe Young started his college basketball career at the University of Houston. His father worked there, helping with the basketball team. In his second year, Joe was a great scorer. He averaged 18 points per game. He was also very good at shooting three-pointers and free throws.
After his father left the University of Houston, Joe decided to transfer. He moved to the University of Oregon to play for coach Dana Altman. In 2015, during his senior year, Joe was named the Pac-12 Conference Player of the Year. He averaged 19.8 points per game. He even made two game-winning shots against Arizona State and Washington.
Professional Career Highlights
Starting with the Indiana Pacers (2015–2018)
On June 25, 2015, the Indiana Pacers chose Joe Young in the 2015 NBA draft. He was the 43rd pick overall. Joe played very well in the 2015 NBA Summer League. He scored the most points per game, averaging 22.5. Because of his great performance, he signed a four-year contract with the Pacers.
During his time with the Pacers, Joe also played for their minor league team, the Fort Wayne Mad Ants. This helped him get more playing time and experience. He would sometimes be sent to the Mad Ants and then called back to play for the Pacers.
Playing in China: Nanjing Monkey King (2018–2020)
In August 2018, Joe Young signed a contract to play for the Nanjing Monkey King team in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA). In his very first game in the CBA, he scored 23 points. On November 15, 2018, Joe had an amazing game. He scored a career-high 51 points!
He continued to play well and re-signed with Nanjing for the 2019–2020 season. On July 23, 2020, Joe had another incredible game. He scored 74 points against the Shandong Heroes. This was one of the highest single-game scores in CBA history. He was named the league's top scorer for that season.
Moving to Beijing Royal Fighters (2020–2021)
On October 1, 2020, Joe Young joined the Beijing Royal Fighters team in the CBA. He played under coach Stephon Marbury, who was a famous NBA All-Star. Joe had a fantastic season before joining Beijing. He averaged 38.3 points, 6.4 assists, and 2.3 steals per game for his previous team.
Birmingham Squadron (2021–2022)
In October 2021, Joe Young joined the Birmingham Squadron through a trade. This team is part of the NBA G League.
Playing in Europe: Promitheas Patras (2022–2023)
On July 22, 2022, Joe Young signed with Promitheas Patras. This team plays in the Greek Basket League and the EuroCup. It was his first time playing for a club in Europe. He played very well, averaging 16 points per game in the Greek league and 23.4 points in the EuroCup. He left the team in January 2023.
Napoli Basket (2023)
After leaving Greece, Joe Young signed with Napoli in Italy in January 2023. This team plays in the Italian Lega Basket Serie A.
Return to Fujian Sturgeons (2024–Present)
On September 30, 2024, Joe Young signed with the Fujian Sturgeons of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA). He had previously played for other teams in 2024, including Kuwait SC and Shahrdari Gorgan.

About Joe Young's Life
Joe Young's parents are Tina and Michael Young. His father, Michael, is a legend at the University of Houston. He is the third-highest scorer in the school's history. His jersey number was even retired, which is a huge honor!
Joe studied Sociology in college. His younger brother, Jacob, also plays college basketball. Jacob played for Texas and Rutgers before joining Oregon. Joe Young and famous NBA player Paul George are distant cousins.
Giving Back to the Community
Joe Young cares a lot about his hometown of Houston, Texas. In 2019, he showed his generosity by donating 1,000 Thanksgiving Day turkey dinners. He gave these dinners to families in need in the Midtown area of the city.
