Joel Carroll (born in September 1986 in Darwin, Northern Territory) is an amazing Australian field hockey player. He played for club teams like the University team and the NT Stingers. Joel was also part of Australia's junior team for players under 21. He later joined the senior men's team, where he helped them win gold medals at the 2010 Commonwealth Games and the 2010 Men's Hockey Champions Trophy. He even won a bronze medal with the team at the 2012 Summer Olympics!

About Joel Carroll
Joel Carroll was born on September 11, 1986, in Darwin, Northern Territory. He grew up in the Northern Territory. His uncle, Joe Daby, is known as one of the best field hockey players from that area. Joel is also recognized by the Australian Olympic Committee as an Indigenous Australian Olympian.
Joel's Field Hockey Journey
Joel Carroll is mainly a defender in field hockey. However, he has also played other positions, like right-midfield, which he enjoyed.
Early Career and Junior Teams
In 2001 and 2002, Joel played A-Grade Hockey for the Nightcliff Tigers Hockey Club. His team won championships in both years. In 2002, when he was just fifteen, he played for the Under 18 and Under 21 Northern Territory teams in national championships.
In 2003, at 16 years old, Joel was the youngest player in an Australian Hockey League game. He started for the NT Stingers against the NSW team. In January 2005, Joel was part of Australia's Under 21 national team. They played a five-game series against Malaysia in Brisbane. He was one of four players from Darwin, Northern Territory on that team. In June 2005, Joel was one of five players from the Northern Territory chosen to represent Australia at the Under 21 World Cup.
Playing for the National Team
In April 2009, the new national team coach, Ric Charlesworth, added Joel Carroll to the senior national squad. This was to help get the team ready for the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
Joel made his debut for the national team in 2009. In 2010, he played for Australia at the Commonwealth Games. He helped his team win a gold medal there. He also won a gold medal at the Champions Trophy in 2010.
Joel was injured in May 2011, so he could not play in the Azlan Shah Cup. In December 2011, he was named as one of 28 players on the training squad for the 2012 Summer Olympics. He was one of two players from the Northern Territory on this important squad. Joel trained with the team in Perth, Western Australia, from January to March 2012. During this training, he played in a four-nations series against teams like the Kookaburras, Australia A, the Netherlands, and Argentina.
Awards and Recognition
In 2009, Joel Carroll was nominated for the Qantas NT Sportsperson of the Year award. In 2012, he was a finalist for the Toll Transitions and Toll Marine Logistics Sports Award. This award was presented by the Sun Newspapers.
