Joel Defries was born on March 14, 1985. He is a British TV and radio presenter. Many people know him from the popular children's show Blue Peter. He worked on Blue Peter from 2008 to 2010. Before that, Joel worked on a TV station in New Zealand called C4.

Joel's Journey in Television

Joel Defries started his media career in New Zealand. He first worked at a radio station called Channel Z. Later, he hosted a music show called Select Live. Joel also presented a live music show called Live at Yours. He became very well-known among young people in New Zealand. He also had a Sunday morning radio show called Joel's Take Out.

Joining Blue Peter

Joel decided to come back to the UK for new opportunities. On September 5, 2008, it was announced that he would join Blue Peter. He took over from Gethin Jones as a presenter. Joel joined the team, including Andy Akinwolere and Helen Skelton, on September 23, 2008.

In 2009, Joel traveled to Turkey with the Blue Peter team. They filmed the Summer Expedition there. Joel announced on November 29, 2010, that he would leave the show. His last day on Blue Peter was December 14, 2010.

Other TV Adventures

While on Blue Peter, Joel learned to fly a hang glider. He did this with an instructor named Judy Leden MBE. The goal was to fly with Lucy, a peregrine falcon.

In 2009, Joel also presented a CBBC game show. It was called Keep Your Enemies Close. This show tested friends by making them work with their rivals. There were 26 episodes of this fun game show.

Joel's Life Outside Work

Joel went to sixth form at Camden School for Girls in London. He is exactly six feet tall. Joel is Jewish, but he has said he is not very religious. He has only visited a synagogue twice.

Exploring His Heritage

The BBC explored Joel's Jewish background in a Blue Peter episode. It was called "Joel's Journey" and aired on January 27, 2009. In the show, Joel learned about his Jewish heritage. He also spent time with a religious family in the UK. The most important part of the program was his visit to Auschwitz. There, he met Freda Winemann, a Holocaust survivor. She was returning to Auschwitz for the first time.

Joel is a big fan of the football team Fulham F.C..
