Joel David Williams was born on March 16, 1965. He is a former American football player. He played as a tight end for the Miami Dolphins in the National Football League (NFL). The Dolphins picked him in the 1987 NFL draft. Before that, he played college football at the University of Notre Dame.

Joel David Williams was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on March 16, 1965. He grew up and went to Gateway High School. This school is in Monroeville, Pennsylvania.
College Football Days
Williams played college football for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He was part of the University of Notre Dame team from 1983 to 1986.
During his time at Notre Dame, he caught several passes:
- In 1983, he caught one pass for six yards.
- In 1984, he caught two passes for 17 yards.
- In 1985, he caught five passes for 63 yards and scored one touchdown.
- In 1986, he caught 13 passes for 138 yards and scored three touchdowns.
Playing in the NFL
The Miami Dolphins chose Joel Williams in the 1987 NFL draft. He was the 210th player picked overall, in the eighth round. He officially joined the team on July 22, 1987.
Williams played in the first two games of the 1987 season. He did not play in the next three games because of a player strike. After the strike ended, he was able to play again on October 20. He then played in the team's sixth game of the season. The Dolphins released him from the team on November 2, 1987.
