Joey Donald Essex (born 29 July 1990) is an English television personality. He became well-known after appearing on the ITV reality TV show The Only Way Is Essex from 2011 to 2013. After that, he appeared on many other reality shows. These include Splash! (2013), I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! (2013), and The Jump (2015). He also appeared on Celebs Go Dating (2016–2019, 2021), Celebrity Ex on the Beach (2020), Dancing on Ice (2023), and Love Island (2024).

School Life

Joey Essex went to West Hatch High School in Chigwell, Essex. He finished school in 2006. He got a U grade in Drama, a C in Art, and a D in Wood Tech for his GCSEs. Ten years later, for a TV show, he took another GCSE. He got a D in General Studies. He famously said, "I still don't really know what GCSE stands for."

Television Shows

Joey Essex first appeared on The Only Way Is Essex (TOWIE) in its second series. He was a supporting cast member with his cousin Chloe Sims. He became a main cast member in the third series. In 2011, the TOWIE cast released a song called "Reem."

In 2013, Joey took part in Splash!. This show teaches celebrities how to dive. He was eliminated in the second round. On 13 November 2013, it was announced that Joey had left The Only Way Is Essex. He then joined the thirteenth series of I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!. This show sees celebrities live in a jungle. He finished in fourth place after 20 days.

In March 2014, Joey starred in a special TV show called Educating Joey Essex. In this show, he traveled to South Africa. Phillip Schofield narrated the show. Later, ITV2 ordered a full series of Educating Joey Essex. It started in June 2014. In 2016, a second series was made. The first episode was about the Queen's 90th Birthday.

In 2015, Joey won the second series of Channel 4's reality show The Jump. In this show, celebrities learn winter sports. In 2016, he joined the E4 dating show Celebs Go Dating. He returned for the second series in 2017.

In 2017, Joey was named the fourth most powerful person in Essex. In 2018, he was a guest on BBC One's Michael McIntyre's Big Show. In 2020, Joey appeared on Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins. He also appeared on MTV's Celebrity Ex on the Beach. In 2021, he was in Celebs Go Dating: The Mansion.

In 2022, he took part in the Australian version of I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!. He finished in sixth place. In 2023, Joey came in second place on Dancing on Ice. This show teaches celebrities how to ice skate.

In June 2024, Joey Essex joined the Love Island villa. He was a contestant on the eleventh series. He is the first celebrity to appear on the revived version of the show.

Other Projects

On 8 March 2013, Joey Essex launched his own hair product line. It was called Joey Essex: D'Reem Hair. On 23 March 2013, he opened his shop named Fusey in Brentwood. The shop closed in 2016. On 12 September 2013, Joey launched two perfumes. One was Fusey aftershave for men. The other was My Girl perfume for women. In February 2016, Joey appeared in adverts for Batchelors Cup-a-Soup. In May 2017, he announced a new clothing line called DAFDEA.

Personal Life

Joey Essex was engaged to his TOWIE co-star Sam Faiers. They broke up but got back together in 2012. He proposed to her again in March 2013, and she said yes. However, they split up again in June 2013. In October 2014, they announced they had broken up for good.

In June 2012, Joey Essex was robbed at knifepoint in Hammersmith, London.

Joey Essex moved to Dubai in 2023. This move happened after thieves reportedly broke into his home in January 2023.
