After college, Brisker played six seasons as a professional. He played in both the ABA and the NBA. His teams included the Pittsburgh Pipers (1969–1970), Pittsburgh Condors (1970–1972), and Seattle SuperSonics (1972–1975).

His Disappearance
In March 1978, John Brisker traveled to Uganda. He went there to start a new "import-export business." The last time anyone heard from him was on April 11, 1978. He called his girlfriend in Seattle on that day.
What happened to John Brisker after that is still a mystery. Some of his former teammates wondered if he got into trouble while in Uganda. They thought he might have been involved in a dangerous situation.
In May 1985, John Brisker was officially declared dead. This was done by a medical examiner in King County, Washington. This decision was made so his personal affairs could be settled. However, the U.S. State Department could not confirm his travel to Africa. They also could not confirm that he had died.
