John Campea, born Giovanni Bertone Campea on February 26, 1972, is a Canadian YouTuber, film critic, and media host. He is also a director, writer, producer, and editor.
Campea started a popular movie website called The Movie Blog in 2003. He ran it until 2009. Later, he became the main editor for AMC Movie News from 2008 to 2015. After that, he joined Collider to lead Collider Movie Talk in 2015. He was a senior producer and host for their shows. He left Collider in 2017 to focus on his own YouTube channel. As of December 2022, his channel has over 316,000 subscribers and more than 265 million total views.

John Campea's Career Journey
John Campea began his career working with visual effects. He helped create special effects for movies like Spy Kids 2: The Island of Lost Dreams and Frank Miller's Sin City.
In 2003, he started The Movie Blog. This website shared daily articles and comments about movies and the film industry. It became so popular that it became Campea's full-time job. In 2006, Campea and his co-host Doug Nagy won an award for "Podcast of the Year" for their show Uncut. He left The Movie Blog in 2009 to work on AMC Movie News.
Making Movies and Documentaries
In 2008, Campea released his first documentary film. It was called Prince of Peace: God of War. This film looked at different views on war within the Christian church. It was shown at several film festivals and got good reviews.
He finished filming his first feature film, The Anniversary, in 2009. Campea now runs his own production company, Carson Drive Media. He released his second documentary, Movie Trailers: A Love Story, in November 2020.
Comic-Con and Online Film Discussions
In 2011, Campea took over the "Masters of the Web" panel at San Diego Comic-Con. This yearly panel discusses the film industry and online film journalism. Campea hosts the panel with other big names in online film. Famous guests like Stan Lee and Edgar Wright have also joined the panel.
Leading AMC Movie News
Campea was the Editor-in-Chief of AMC Movie News. He created and hosted many shows there. These included AMC Movie Talk, AMC Jedi Council (a Star Wars talk show), and AMC Mail Bag. Their main show, AMC Movie Talk, won an award in 2014 for "Best News Series". The AMC Movie News YouTube channel had millions of views each month. Campea announced he was leaving AMC Movie News in May 2015.
Working at Collider
In July 2015, Campea announced he was joining Collider. Many of the shows from AMC's YouTube channel moved to Collider's channel. AMC Theatres continued to be a sponsor.
Campea left Collider in February 2016 but returned in September of that year. He then left Collider permanently in June 2017. He said he had different ideas about the channel's direction. After leaving, he focused on his personal YouTube channel.
Becoming an Author
On September 4, 2015, Campea started a Kickstarter project to publish a book he wrote. The book was called The Pride. The project quickly reached its funding goal. The digital version of The Pride was released in February 2016.
The John Campea Show and Mailbag
After leaving Collider, Campea started his own independent film talk show. It is called The John Campea Show and airs on his personal YouTube channel on weekdays. He also makes companion videos and does live streams.
Until November 2021, Robert Meyer Burnett and Erin Cummings often joined him as co-hosts. As of September 2022, his co-hosts include Burnett, Cummings, Kris Carr, Amy Newman, and Ray Ora. Jonathan Voytko rejoined the show in May 2022 as a producer. He is known as "Fact Checker Jonathan." By July 2022, his channel had over 296,000 subscribers.
In November 2021, Campea accidentally showed photos from Spider-Man: No Way Home. The film's release later confirmed these images were real.
In February 2022, Campea brought back the Mailbag show. This show answers questions from fans who send in tips. Campea or Burnett host it a few times a week. Campea also co-hosts a weekly show called Best Movie Worst Movie with Burnett and Cody Miller.
In May 2023, Campea decided to stop live-streaming The John Campea Show for most viewers. He planned to make it an audio-only podcast. This decision caused some discussion among fans. However, Campea later changed his mind. The show became available to non-members with a delay in June 2023 and went live again in October 2023.
Open Mic Discussions
Since 2018, Campea has also hosted Open Mic. This is a daily live show where viewers can ask questions. Campea describes it as a "virtual watercooler" for wide-ranging discussions. In October 2020, Open Mic became a podcast-only show. However, in August 2022, it was announced that Open Mic would return to the John Campea YouTube channel.
John Campea's Personal Life
John Campea married Ann Ora Campea in 2010. They met in 2007 at a party for the film Pathology. As of 2021, they live in Corona, California. They have two dogs named Lily and Shadow.
