Sir John Cutts (1545–1615) was an important English politician who lived in the 1500s and early 1600s. He owned homes in Horham Hall, Essex; Shenley Hall, Hertfordshire; and Childerley, Cambridgeshire. Sir John was a Member of Parliament and held several key roles in his community.

Early Life and Family

Sir John Cutts came from a family that had served the English crown for generations. His great-grandfather, also named Sir John, worked for King Henry VII as an under-treasurer. This meant he helped manage the King's money.

Sir John's father, also named John, passed away when Sir John was very young. His mother was Sybil Hynde. She later remarried another politician named John Hutton.

Education and Early Career

Sir John Cutts received a good education for his time. He studied at Trinity College, Cambridge, which is a famous university. After that, he trained to become a lawyer at Gray's Inn in London. This training helped him understand laws and government.

In 1571, Sir John was honored by the Earl of Leicester, who made him a knight. This meant he was given the title "Sir."

Public Service and Parliament

Sir John also served as a Sheriff for Cambridgeshire and Huntingdonshire from 1572 to 1573, and again from 1601 to 1602. He was also the High Sheriff of Hertfordshire from 1588 to 1589. A sheriff was a very important local official, responsible for law enforcement and managing elections.

Family Life

Sir John Cutts was married twice. His first wife was Anne Darcy. They had one son and two daughters together.

Later, he married Margaret Brocket. She was from a well-known family in Hertfordshire. Sir John and Margaret had another son. His son, also named John, took over his family's estates after Sir John passed away in 1615.
