John Joseph Kirby Jr. (October 22, 1939 – October 2, 2019) was an American attorney. He was known his successful defense for Nintendo against Universal City Studios over the copyrights of the character of Donkey Kong in 1984. In return, Nintendo named the character Kirby to honor him.
Kirby died on October 2, 2019 in New York City from myelodysplastic syndrome-related problems at the age of 79.
