Sir John Mallorie (born in 1610, died on January 23, 1655) was an important English politician. He was a member of the House of Commons (a part of the English Parliament) from 1640 to 1642. During the English Civil War, he was a Royalist, which means he supported King Charles I.

Who Was Sir John Mallorie?
Sir John Mallorie came from a well-known family. His father was William Mallory, and his mother was Dorothy Bellingham. Her father was Sir James Bellingham. The Mallorie family lived at a place called Studley Royal. This home had been in their family since 1452. It was also connected to their other family land, the Hutton Conyers estate.
Joining Parliament
In November 1640, John Mallorie was chosen to be a Member of Parliament for Ripon. He was elected alongside his father! This Parliament was known as the Long Parliament.
A Knight and a Royal Supporter
King Charles I made John Mallorie a knight in December 1641. This meant he was given the title "Sir." However, on January 16, 1642, he was no longer allowed to be a Member of Parliament. This happened because of the growing tensions before the English Civil War.
Fighting in the Civil War
By August 1642, the English Civil War had begun. Sir John Mallorie became a leader in the King's army. He was in charge of a group of foot soldiers called a regiment of infantry. He also became the governor of Skipton Castle. This meant he was in charge of defending the castle for the King.
After the War
After the war, Sir John Mallorie and his father had to make an agreement with the winning side (Parliament). This was called "compounding for delinquency." It usually meant paying a fine to avoid further punishment for supporting the King.
The End of His Life
Sir John Mallorie passed away when he was 45 years old. He was buried very quickly the next day in Ripon Cathedral. This quick burial suggests he might have died from a sickness that could spread easily. He was laid to rest in his family's special chapel inside the cathedral.

Sir John Mallorie was married to Mary Moseley. Her father was John Moseley, who had been the Lord Mayor of York.
