  • In 2006, he received the Faraday Medal from the Institution of Engineering and Technology. This is a very important award for engineers.
  • In 2011, he was given the Cunningham Medal by the Royal Irish Academy.
  • In 2017, he was made a knight by the Queen. This means he can use the title "Sir" before his name. He received this honour for his great contributions to education and helping the economy grow.
