John Andrew Orton (born December 8, 1965) is an American professional baseball coach. He used to be a Major League catcher. In 2015, he started his tenth year as a special coach for catchers. He works with minor league teams for the Chicago White Sox. John went to California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. There, he was a top catcher for his college team. When he played baseball, he threw and batted with his right hand.

John Orton was chosen by the California Angels in the 1987 baseball draft. He played professional baseball for ten years. Part of that time, from 1989 to 1993, he played for the Angels.
Highlights as a Player
In 1992, John had his best year playing baseball. He played in 43 games, which was his highest number. He also got 25 hits and hit 2 home runs. He brought in 12 runs for his team. Becoming a Coach
After his playing days, John Orton became a manager for the White Sox's minor league teams. He managed for five years, starting in 2001. He worked with Rookie and Class A teams. After managing, he became a special instructor. He travels around to teach young catchers.
