Moving to Missouri and Military Service

In 1858, John Plank Tracey moved to Missouri. When the American Civil War began, he joined the Union Army. He became a private soldier on March 1, 1862. He served bravely until March 10, 1865. By the end of his service, he had become a first lieutenant. After the war, in April 1865, he was made a lieutenant colonel. This was for the Missouri Enrolled Militia.

Law and Journalism Career

After his military service, John Plank Tracey continued his career. In May 1865, he was officially allowed to practice law. This means he became a lawyer. He started his law practice in Stockton, Missouri. Later, in 1874, he moved to Springfield, Missouri. In Springfield, he also worked in journalism. This means he was involved with newspapers.

Political Career

John Plank Tracey was a member of the Republican Party. He decided to run for a position in Congress. He was elected to the Fifty-fourth Congress. This term lasted from March 4, 1895, to March 3, 1897. During this time, he represented Missouri.

After his term, he tried to be re-elected in 1896. However, he was not successful that time. Later, he served in the State House of Representatives. This was in 1903 and 1904. This is a part of Missouri's state government.

Later Life and Legacy

In 1909 and 1910, John Plank Tracey worked as a superintendent. He managed the Soldiers' Home in St. James, Missouri. This home helped soldiers who had served their country. He also continued to work in newspapers in Springfield, Missouri. John Plank Tracey passed away in Springfield on July 24, 1910. He was buried in Hazelwood Cemetery.
