Johnny Culbreath (born May 18, 1988) is an American who used to play professional American football. He was an offensive tackle, which is a player who blocks for his teammates. The Detroit Lions team chose him in the 2011 NFL draft. Before playing professionally, he played college football for South Carolina State.
Growing Up and High School
Johnny Culbreath grew up in Monroe, Georgia. He went to Monroe Area High School there. In high school, he was a talented football player. He earned special honors for his skills on the field. After high school, he decided to play football at South Carolina State.
Besides football, Johnny was also a champion in wrestling. He even won a state championship!
College Football Career
Johnny Culbreath played football for the South Carolina State team. He was a starter for all four years he was there. This means he was one of the main players on the team. He started almost every game during his college career.
Before his last year in 2010, Johnny received many awards. He was also chosen as one of the team's captains. This shows his teammates trusted him as a leader. He was named an All-American three times. This is a big honor for college players. After his senior year, many people thought he would be picked in the NFL Draft.
Johnny studied Industrial Technology at South Carolina State. He earned his bachelor's degree from the university.
Professional Football Career
The Detroit Lions picked Johnny Culbreath in the 2011 NFL draft. He was the 209th player chosen overall. This happened in the seventh round of the draft.
On September 3, 2011, Johnny was placed on the injured reserve list. This means he couldn't play for the rest of that season. He had a medical condition that kept him from playing.
