How Joiner Started
The history of Joiner is a bit unclear, but it seems to have started in the 1880s. Two different men, D.C. Joyner and R.L. Joiner, are mentioned as early settlers. D.C. Joyner was a doctor from Tennessee who settled in the area before 1888. R.L. Joiner was a businessman, also from Tennessee, who arrived in 1868 and settled in the area by 1880.
Around 1903, leaders from the St. Louis & San Francisco Railway visited the area. They met with Rufus Joiner, likely a relative of the early settlers. After a nice evening, the railway decided to build a train station nearby. They named the station after the Joiner family. The station was finished in 1903. The next year, the growing community also got its own post office.
