Where is Turrell Located?
Turrell is in the northern part of Crittenden County. The town of Gilmore is right next to it, to the north. Turrell is on Arkansas Highway 77. It is also near where two big roads, Interstate 55 and U.S. Route 61, meet.
Interstate 55 goes south about 24 miles to Memphis, Tennessee. It goes north about 42 miles to Blytheville, Arkansas, which is close to the Missouri border. U.S. Route 61 and Interstate 555 go northwest about 45 miles to Jonesboro.
Railroad Connections
The Burlington Northern-Santa Fe Railroad runs through Turrell. This railroad is very important for moving goods. Two main lines of the railroad meet in Turrell. These lines bring trains from Springfield, Missouri, and St. Louis. After they meet in Turrell, the tracks continue on to Memphis. This railroad used to be called the St. Louis–San Francisco Railway, or "Frisco." The Burlington Northern company took over the Frisco Railroad in 1980.
Turrell covers a total area of about 5.4 square miles (14.0 square kilometers). Only a tiny part of this area, about 0.02 square miles (0.05 square kilometers), is water.

Education in Turrell
Students in Turrell go to public schools managed by the Marion School District. This means children attend schools that lead up to Marion High School.
Before 2010, Turrell had its own school district, called the Turrell School District. On July 1, 2010, the Turrell School District joined with the Marion School District. This led to the closing of the old Turrell High School.
Turrell High School Sports History
The sports teams at Turrell High School were called the Rockets. The boys' basketball team won two state championships in a row, in 1999 and 2000. The girls' basketball team also won a state championship in 1987.
Famous Person from Turrell
- Jerry Rook (born 1943) was a great basketball player. He was born in Turrell. He played for Arkansas State and was named an All-American player twice.
