Jonathan Keith Nunnally, born on November 9, 1971, is a former professional baseball player. He was an outfielder, which means he played in the outfield area of the baseball field. Jon played in the major leagues from 1995 to 2000. He also played in Japan for a team called the Orix BlueWave during 2000.
Jon Nunnally's Baseball Journey
Jon Nunnally started his major league career in 1995. The Kansas City Royals picked him in the 1994 Rule 5 draft. This draft allows teams to select players from other teams' minor league systems.
He played his very first game on April 29, 1995. In his first time at bat, he hit a home run! This amazing hit was against New York Yankees pitcher Melido Perez.
From Player to Coach
After Jon Nunnally stopped playing baseball, he became a coach. He started working for the Cleveland Indians team organization in 2006.
In December 2009, he became the hitting coach for the Cleveland Indians. A hitting coach helps players improve how they hit the ball. He held this job until June 2011.
In January 2013, the Toronto Blue Jays announced that Jon would be a hitting coach. He worked for their Triple-A team, the Buffalo Bisons. The next year, in January 2014, he moved to coach the Double-A team, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats.
In January 2015, he was hired by the Boston Red Sox organization. He became the hitting coach for their minor league team, the Salem Red Sox. In January 2016, he moved to coach the Portland Sea Dogs.
In February 2018, Jon Nunnally took on a new role. He became the outfield and base running coordinator for the Los Angeles Angels' farm system. This means he helped teach players how to play in the outfield and how to run the bases.
In 2019, he joined the Pittsburgh Pirates organization. He worked as the hitting coach for the Altoona Curve. Before the 2020 season, he was named hitting coach for the Indianapolis Indians. In 2022, Jon Nunnally returned to be the hitting coach for the Altoona Curve again.
