Jonathan Keith Nunnally (born November 9, 1971) is a former professional baseball outfielder. He played in the major leagues, the highest level of baseball in the United States, from 1995 to 2000. He also played part of the year 2000 with the Orix BlueWave team in Japan.

Playing Career Highlights

Jon Nunnally's journey in the major leagues began in 1995. The Kansas City Royals picked him from the Cleveland Indians' organization. This happened during the 1994 Rule 5 draft, which is a special way teams can get new players.

He made his very first major league appearance on April 29, 1995. It was an amazing start! In his first time batting, he hit a home run off New York Yankees pitcher Melido Perez. This is a rare and exciting way to begin a baseball career.

Nunnally played for several teams during his time in the major leagues. These included the Kansas City Royals, Cincinnati Reds, Boston Red Sox, and New York Mets.

Coaching Career

After his playing career ended, Jon Nunnally decided to become a coach. He started working with the Cleveland Indians organization in 2006.

On December 8, 2009, he got a big promotion. He was named the new hitting coach for the Cleveland Indians. A hitting coach helps players improve their batting skills. He held this important role until June 19, 2011.

Later, on January 7, 2013, the Toronto Blue Jays announced that Nunnally would be a hitting coach for one of their minor league teams. This team was the Buffalo Bisons, which is a Triple-A affiliate. Triple-A is just one step below the major leagues.

He then moved to coach the Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats in 2014. Double-A is another level of minor league baseball.

In January 2015, he became the hitting coach for the Salem Red Sox. This team is a minor league affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. The next year, in January 2016, he was announced as the hitting coach for the Portland Sea Dogs.

In February 2018, Nunnally took on a new role. He became the outfield and base running coordinator for the Los Angeles Angels' farm system. This meant he helped teach players how to play in the outfield and how to run the bases well.

In 2019, he joined the Pittsburgh Pirates organization. He worked as the hitting coach for the Altoona Curve. Before the 2020 season, he was named the hitting coach for the Indianapolis Indians. In 2022, he returned to be the hitting coach for the Altoona Curve once again.
