Jonathan T. Capehart (born July 2, 1967) is an American journalist and TV host. He shares his opinions on news and politics. He writes for The Washington Post and hosts a show on MSNBC.

About Jonathan Capehart
Early Life and Education
Jonathan Capehart grew up in Hazlet, New Jersey. He was the third of four children. When he was 16, his family moved to Newark, New Jersey. He went to Saint Benedict's Preparatory School. Later, he studied political science at Carleton College and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree.
Jonathan Capehart's Career
Starting in Journalism

Before working at The Washington Post and MSNBC, Jonathan Capehart was a researcher for The Today Show on NBC. He then worked for the New York Daily News from 1993 to 2000. He was part of the newspaper's editorial board. At that time, he was the youngest person ever to join their editorial board.
In 2000, he left the Daily News to work at Bloomberg News. He also helped Michael Bloomberg with speeches when Bloomberg ran for mayor of New York City in 2001. Capehart returned to the New York Daily News in 2002. He was the deputy editor of the editorial page until 2004. After that, he worked for a public relations company called Hill & Knowlton.
Working at The Washington Post and MSNBC

Jonathan Capehart joined The Washington Post in 2007 as a journalist. He was also a member of its editorial board until 2023. He is a regular commentator for MSNBC. He also hosts a podcast called Cape Up. In his podcast, he talks to important people about topics like race, religion, and identity in politics.
In 2018, he started guest hosting a radio show called Midday on WNYC. On December 13, 2020, he hosted the first episode of The Sunday Show with Jonathan Capehart on MSNBC. He also sometimes fills in as host for The Last Word with Lawrence O'Donnell on Fridays.
Since January 2021, Capehart has been part of the Friday political commentary segment on the PBS NewsHour. In March 2022, he became an associate editor at The Washington Post.
In February 2023, his show The Sunday Show expanded to include a Saturday edition. It is now often called The Saturday/Sunday Show with Jonathan Capehart.
In late 2024, Jonathan Capehart was recognized as one of America's top 10 TV news journalists. This award came from GALECA: The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics. They praised him for covering many different topics. These topics included climate change, the humanitarian crisis in Sudan, and the science of aging.
Personal Life and Awards
In May 2016, Jonathan Capehart got engaged to Nick Schmit. Nick was an assistant chief of protocol at the U.S. State Department. They were married on January 7, 2017. Former U.S. attorney general Eric Holder performed their wedding ceremony.
In 1999, Jonathan Capehart was a key part of a team at the New York Daily News that won a Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Writing. This award was for a series of articles that criticized how the Apollo Theater in Harlem was being managed financially.
