Jonnie Peacock's Early Life
Jonnie Peacock was born in Cambridge, England. He grew up in a village called Shepreth. When he was five years old, Jonnie got a serious illness called meningitis. This illness damaged the tissues in his right leg. Because of this, his leg had to be removed just below the knee.
Jonnie loved football and wanted to play. After his prosthetic leg was fitted, he asked about sports for people with disabilities. He was then invited to a Paralympic sports talent day. Sometimes, his leg stump would be too sore to wear his prosthetic leg. On those days, his mother would carry him to school. Jonnie playfully calls his stump his "sausage leg." As a teenager, he lived in St Ives, Cambridgeshire and went to St Ivo School.
Becoming a World-Class Sprinter
Jonnie ran his first international race in May 2012. This was at the Paralympic World Cup in Manchester. In June 2012, he set a new world record for amputee sprinting. He ran the 100 metres in 10.85 seconds. This beat the old record by a small amount. However, this record was later broken in July 2013.
Paralympic Gold Medals
At the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London, Jonnie won the 100m T44 final. He finished in 10.90 seconds, earning a gold medal. This also set a new Paralympic record. His coach, Dan Pfaff, became the only person to coach 100m gold medalists in both the Olympics and Paralympics. Pfaff had also coached Donovan Bailey, an Olympic gold medalist.
Jonnie had to miss the 2015 IPC Athletics World Championships. This was because of a sore on his stump. But he came back strong! At the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio, Jonnie defended his title. He won another gold medal in the T44 100m race. His winning time was 10.81 seconds.
Tokyo and Paris Paralympics
Jonnie was added to the British team for the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo. These Games were held in 2021 due to a delay. He helped his team win a silver medal in the Mixed 4 × 100 m relay. He also won an individual bronze medal in the men's 100m T64. He shared this bronze medal with Johannes Floors, as they finished at the exact same time.
Jonnie also competed at the 2024 Summer Paralympics in Paris. He finished fifth in the 100m T64 final. He was also part of the 4x100m universal relay team. This team, which included Zac Shaw, Ali Smith, and Sammi Kinghorn, won a silver medal.

In September 2017, Jonnie was a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing. This is a popular show on BBC One. He was the first amputee Paralympian to compete on the show. He danced with professional partner Oti Mabuse. They were the eighth couple to leave the competition.
Jonnie also appeared on the TV show Who Do You Think You Are? in 2018. In August 2021, he made a guest appearance on the Channel 4 soap opera Hollyoaks. His scenes showed him comforting a character who had recently had an amputation. His own TV series, Jonnie's Blade Camp, was also shown on Channel 4 in August 2021.
